Over the halfway hump

Planning a run for 21 consecutive days, we were realistically expecting rain at some point, however we were ideally hoping for 21 days of pure blue sky goodness. It was not to be…
The alarm was set earlier than usual this morning as we had to drive 50km north of Holbrook to continue where we had left off. We hopped out of Ruby and within minutes the rain made itself known to us. Saucony have been awesome kitting us out in their gear, however we had forgotten about wet-weather gear (again, we just thought it wouldn’t rain for three weeks straight). Mark had the answer-a giant black garbage bag with a hole cut in the bottom for each of us. This would serve as a poncho, however we felt like three black pac-man(s) making our way down the Hume, following the little yellow dots along the way. They didn’t have arm holes cut in them, however Ben still managed to use his phone for over half the day.
The wet weather made the pace even slower than usual, however the rain stopped after an hour or so (but they pace stayed the same).
Coming up on the 20km mark we hit the small town of Tarcutta, which marked a pretty special occasion for us-the HALFWAY POINT! Edge had told us he’d shout us burgers once we got to this point…we weren’t sure whether this was to make us speed up our slackening pace or not, but either way he was true to his word-what an awesome way to celebrate.
We got back on the road, however today we lost another Run For A Reason member, and no it was not another one of Ben’s blisters-Jacki left halfway through the day but will be back to help the girls out after the weekend.
We continued along the dirty Hume and the Heavens opened up again, so on went the pac-man ponchos again.
We finished the 44km day right beside a 5 metre high McDonalds billboard…bad move. Ben and Nick spent ten minutes comparing each other’s “ideal Maccas orders” before we drove the 20 odd kms into Gundagai and bought dead set half of Maccas, then made our way to the caravan park.
A fairly average day, to match the fairly average weather. ..
Love,
