Day nine and feeling fine

Just under a week ago if someone had told me we’d all make it through day 9 with smiles on our faces I would have told them politely where to go. However here we are.
The wet morning started off at 6.58am-our first morning before 7am…the “old Nick” would have enforced more 7am starts, however the “new Nick” is one that is just happy getting through each day unscathed, rather than hell-bent on split times, reducing breaks, etc…I’m 25 now-I’m too old for that crap!
Today was the first day spent entirely on the Hume Hwy-no backstreets. This was pretty handy for Ben, as he had developed a habit of running down the wrong street, and then having the van drop him back on the correct path further up, so he didn’t have to run the same section twice.
Surprisingly, the first “Hume day” was not as soul-sucking as we thought, and we were happy clocking up the kms while talking about all sorts of things. I learnt lots today-if Joel could be any animal he would be a dolphin. So would Sam actually, Ben chose an eagle, and myself a shark. We then thought about who would win this animal fight, and also which of our friends could beat Chuck Norris in a fight (the answer clearly being none of them). Joel also gave a great three minute speech on worms (seriously)…he’s quite a special boy. This is the sort of stuff we do to pass the time…riveting I know.
The weather stayed fine and all around we had a pretty awesome day…Mark (the Edge) was knackered after racking up double digits on his feet, Carlee manoeuvred Ruby like a pro and busted out some kms herself, and Jacki and Sam were running water to and from the boys (among many other things).
However all didn’t go to plan today, and we did lose a member of the “Run for a Reason” team…it is with regret that I announce that at around 4pm on the 4th of July 2011, Ben’s blister, sadly popped. Although it nearly made us vomit, we had learned to love the little guy, and nearly always got a daily photo, mention or thought. Ben has said that he his lonely, however I’m sure all the nightly calls from the ladies he receives will get him through somehow. And hey, it might make reappearance sooner than we think.
We drove back to our temporary home at Holbrook for the second night in a row, and will drive back to our starting point early tomorrow to do it all again (possibly in the wet!)
Cheers
Nick

If you’re a regular blog reader you may have noticed that we spend most of our days talking about various forms of business (mostly business ethics and business management). There are times however where we chat about other things. Below is an exact transcript of a conversation we had today with a hidden meaning.

Ben: Hey Joel, look at Nicks Calves, they are absolutely beautiful
Joel: Benny that’s enough about his calves, that’s all you’ve been talking about for the last 15 minutes… Lets talk about the dinner were having on the 16th July?
Ben: Yeah mate, its all sorted.
Joel: I thought we were waiting for some people to pay right?
Ben: Yes Joel, that is correct. If they don’t pay by the 8th July, Tradies will be unable to cater for them and they will be unable to attend.
Joel: oh no, it would be devastating if people want to come but haven’t paid.
Ben: Yeah that’s right Joel, you’re an intelligent and good looking guy.
Joel: thanks Ben….. So basically everything is ready to roll were just waiting for people to pay for the dinner and put the money into the account which we sent everyone via facebook?
Ben: that’s correct, if people are having any problems they should call Ben on 0405601067 or  Joel on 0422369633.
Joel: Mate, I have your number and I know mine.

Anyways that’s just a conversation we had today that wasn’t about business which we thought we might share.
